To live is to sacrifice. To die is to gain. But the ultimate sacrifice is obedience.
Showing obedience to God. Keeping his commandments, which shows we love
him. If you love me, keep my commandments. There is protection in keeping
God's commandments: (Deuteronomy 5:7-21). Thou shall have no other gods
before me. Thou shall not make any graven image, or any likeness of anything
that is in heaven above, or on the earth beneath, or in the waters below. Thou
shall not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a
jealous God, punishing the children of fathers to the third and fourth generation
of those who hate me, and showing love to a thousand generations of those
who love me and keep my commandments. Thou shall not take the name
of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that take
his name in vain. Keep the Sabbath day to make it holy, as the Lord thy
God commanded thee. Six days thou shall labor, and do all of your work.
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shall
not do any work: thou, nor thy son or daughter, nor thy manservant or
maidservant, nor thy ox, nor the donkey, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy
stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant or maidservant
may rest as well as you. And remember that thou was a servant in the land
of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out of there with a mighty
hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord thy God commanded
thee: that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee
in the land which the Lord thy God give thee. Thou shall not kill. Neither
shall thou commit adultery. Neither shall thou steal. Neither shall thou
bear false witness against thy neighbor. Neither shall thou desire thy
neighbor's wife. Neither shall thou covet thy neighbor's house. His
field, or his manservant or maidservant, or his ox, or his donkey, or
anything that belongs to your neighbor. Disobedience is the ultimate
reflection of greed. Obedience is the ultimate reflect of fear and
reverence. Freedom was given to us with assurance we would use
that freedom to obey God. And that's the ultimate sacrifice. Obedience.
